Deposed Thaksin returns home

Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra has returned to his homeland, 17 months after being deposed in a military coup.
Thousands of flag-waving supporters, including key figures in the newly elected government, gathered at Bangkok's main airport to greet him.
Mr Thaksin was taken straight to court to face charges of abuse of power during his time in office - charges he insists are politically motivated.
He was granted bail and told not to leave Thailand without permission.
Mr Thaksin has said he intends to stay out of politics now he is back in the country, but correspondents say there are fears his return could lead to political turmoil.
Opponents' fears
The 58-year-old billionaire businessman had tears in his eyes as he greeted his supporters, who were cheering and waving signs saying "We love Thaksin!"
As he left the airport, he knelt and touched the ground with his forehead in a sign of respect.
Speaking to the BBC's Andrew Harding on the flight from Hong Kong, Mr Thaksin expressed optimism that he would "definitely" be cleared of corruption charges against him.

A large crowd of supporters was waiting for Mr Thaksin in Bangkok
"I've done nothing wrong, why worry?" he said. "I have to restore my reputation which has been tarnished by the coup."
Mr Thaksin's party, Thai Rak Thai, was outlawed following the military coup in
September 2006, and he was personally banned from politics for five years.
When asked if he would be pulling the political strings in Thailand, Mr Thaksin told the BBC that he had retired from politics.
"I think in my life I have devoted a lot to my country and I think I have done a lot politically. No more politics," he said.
He insisted he wanted to live peacefully as a "normal citizen", with no desire to seek revenge against the military leaders who forced him out of power.
He said that he now wished to focus on his family and his football interests. He owns Manchester City and travelled to Thailand with two of the British club's players.
He is also likely to spend time trying to secure the release of $1600m (£800m) from his frozen bank accounts.
Lying low?
But his opponents fear he has returned to Thailand to influence events from behind-the-scenes.
The People Power Party (PPP), which won elections in December last year, includes many of Mr Thaksin's followers, and critics say that the new prime minister, Samak Sundaravej, is just a proxy for Mr Thaksin himself.
Our correspondent says the former prime minister will need to lie low for a while now he is back in Thailand.
But it is unlikely he will be able to avoid the media spotlight, even if he wants to.

Microsoft + Yahoo = ?

After staying quiet during the frenzy of Microsoft's offer to purchase Yahoo on Friday for US$44.6-billion, Google has finally responded via a statement on its official blog.
While I encourage you to read the whole statement, the following from Google senior vice-president David Drummond pretty much sums up how Google views what could be a very strong competitor in the online advertising space:
"Microsoft's hostile bid for Yahoo! raises troubling questions. This is about more than simply a financial transaction, one company taking over another. It's about preserving the underlying principles of the Internet: openness and innovation.""Could Microsoft now attempt to exert the same sort of inappropriate and illegal influence over the Internet that it did with the PC? While the Internet rewards competitive innovation, Microsoft has frequently sought to establish proprietary monopolies -- and then leverage its dominance into new, adjacent markets."
While it is certain that a Microsoft-Yahoo merger will have an impact on the Internet, it is still unclear to how serious that impact will be. It is also encouraging to see Google add its voice to the debate and question what a Web controlled by Microsoft could look like. In the end, however, it is up to the Internet's denizens and their voices to help shape the future of the online world.

Know More About Man Utd.

Manchester United

Official Club Name: Manchester United Football Club Year of Establishment: 1878 Home/Stadium: Manchester / Old Trafford (capacity: 62,000) Head Coach: Alex Ferguson Significant Players: Wayne Rooney, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester Utd. has been definitely the best team in the Premier League especially in 1990s. With its magnificent group of players, the team was at their best during 98-99 season when they took the Quadruple Crown by winning Premier Championship, FA Cup, Toyota Cup, and Champion's League, and they became the first team in history of English soccer to accomplish the honor. Manchester Utd., also known as the "Red Devils" for their red uniforms, has never gone down to Division II, and they have won more championships than any other teams in the league except Liverpool. The head coach, Alex Ferguson, is considered as one of the best coaches in the world.
How have they made their money? Their football glories are just a small part of the United money-making strategy. A clever marketing plan, built upon the celebrity of stars past and present including David Beckham and Eric Cantona, has made them a global brand. They also boast the biggest club stadium in England, which is full for every game. Yet this summer's takeover of the club by Malcolm Glazer - and its high levels of debt - has put a question mark against the club's future growth prospects.
While their ranks of global superstars may have diminished, United’s biggest asset remains the worldwide recognition of their name.

The History of the iPhone?

I found some history or rumor about the iPhone.

There may not be anyone who is as sick of the rumored, impending Apple mobile phone release than the writers here on Infinite Loop. Regardless, we trudge, doing our duty, reporting most sensical rumors and even some of the funnier, nonsensical ones. Some days it seems that these iPhone rumors have been circulating the "Internets" since the beginning of time. Well, thanks to this article, we can now safely say that they have, or at least since 1999, which is close to the beginning of time for some of us.
The article entails the saga that is the iPhone rumor-mill from the beginning, which they claim to way back in the year of nineteen-hundred and ninety-nine. We know you are curious, so we will tell you that 1999 is the year Apple registered iPhone.org and the rest has been a horrible, horrible downhill journey ever since.
The list just goes to show how rumors evolve over time, and especially with this one that has been going on for years, it's kind of funny now to read some of the older theories about the iPhone. One thing to note is that changes in the iPhone rumors have been occurring much more frequently lately. The list is really rather disgustingly up to date, and it ends with the much-rumored iPhone's release. It's a decent read, but please make it stop!
